NO ANGELS – ALLEYWAYS OF LOS ANGELES

NO ANGELS – Alleyways juxtaposes the glamour of Hollywood (aka 'Tinsel Town' or the 'City of Angels') against its dark underbelly, where the shadows and detritus of urban life dominate. This series is an exclusively low-light photographic chronicle of the alleys both in and around the Beverly Grove neighborhood and along the commercial corridor of Melrose Boulevard.

Alleyways are ubiquitous yet often overlooked elements of Los Angeles' civic terrain. Ever-present yet hidden from plain sight, they serve multiple purposes: egress, shortcut, back entrance, parking spot, refuse collection point, and shelter for the houseless. These urban arteries parallel some of the city's most glamorous commercial corridors, where global brands showcase their neon-lit, fantastic showrooms.

It’s the quiet mystery of these alleys that captivates me. Through this series, I aim to illuminate the often-unseen aspects of Los Angeles. This work explores contrasts: neon and shadows, wealth and poverty, insiders and outsiders, vibrant colors meeting neutral asphalts.
