Architecture Photography in Issaquah Highlands – Gavin Haag Photography

Case study: photography for a custom home building client

Chasing light: The twilight shoot

We planned the shoot around twilight. The house faces west, and there was a chance the sunset might deliver something special. It did. We got lucky with the light—it reflected off the glass and brought out the textures in the stone, giving the whole place a clean, cinematic look. I could not stop photographing the home, especially as the windows started to reflect the light and the multitude of colors.

As a photographer, I can do a lot—but I can’t control the weather. That’s why I always build in room for the unexpected. Seattle’s light between April and September can be magic, but it takes intention, timing, and patience to catch it right. My job is to plan with the client so we’re ready when that moment hits.

I’m proud of these images. I’m proud of the way we worked together. And I’m proud to call Chaffey Construction a client.

This was a special one.

I was brought in as an architecture photographer based in Seattle to document this custom home in the Issaquah Highlands. Years of work and care went into designing and building the home, and I felt a responsibility to show that work in the best light—literally and figuratively.

Collaborating with the builder

What you're seeing here—photos and a short video—is the result of a thoughtful, collaborative process. From the beginning, the team at Chaffey Construction were clear on their vision. They weren’t just looking for clean documentation—they wanted the photos to reflect the thought and craft behind the build. That’s something I always aim for. Buildings aren’t just materials—they’re lived in, experienced, and remembered.

Drop me a line, I’d love to collaborate with you.
